AUGUSTA (AP) — An Augusta man who stabbed his estranged wife repeatedly in the head and upper body has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
David Delesline was sentenced Tuesday to 16 years behind bars, with eight years suspended, and six years’ probation.
The 45-year-old Delesline pleaded guilty in March to elevated aggravated assault in connection with the June 2013 attack.
Prosecutors say the couple was in the process of getting a divorce and had been living apart. The woman allowed her husband at stay at her apartment because he had been living in a shelter. Their divorce has since been finalized.
The victim tells the Kennebec Journal that she still has physical and emotional scars.
Delesline apologized in court, saying he was “ashamed of the man I’ve become.”
