SCARBOROUGH — An anonymous donor has pledged to match any donations, up to $50,000, for Scarborough Land Trust’s acquisition of Benjamin Farm.
According to a press release from SLT, the trust has raised $400,000 of the $500,000 needed to buy and preserve the land for public trails. It has until the end of the year raise the last $50,000 and close the sale.
The SLT reached a $2.5 million sale agreement with the Benjamin family in January.
In June, the Town Council agreed to provide a crucial $2 million from the town land acquisition reserve to help SLT permanently conserve the 136-acre farm, which is the largest remaining plot of undeveloped town land in a densely populated neighborhood.
