BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College Polar Bears remained undefeated on the young season, sweeping the University of New England 3-0 in a non-conference women’s volleyball matched played Tuesday evening at Morrell Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-14, 25-13, 25-9.
Bowdoin, which opened the season with four wins at the Endicott College Invitational, improved to 5-0, while the Nor’easters lost their second straight to dip below the .500 mark at 2-3. The Polar Bears have now won 53 of their last 54 contests at home.
Christie Jewett totaled a match-best nine kills to lead the way for Bowdoin, which racked up an impressive attack percentage of .427, with 36 kills and just four errors. Katie Doherty chipped in seven kills, while Dana White had six. The trio of Jewett, Doherty and White accounted for 22 kills on 39 attack attempts. Doherty and Jewett were also credited with 15 and 13 digs, respectively.
For UNE, Courtney Lambrese established a season high with seven kills. Leah Janelle added six. UNE received 11 assists and six digs from Brooke Gibbons, and libero Nikki Mathewson led the squad with 10 digs.
The Nor’easters will look to get back into the win column this Friday and Saturday when they head to Providence, Rhode Island for the Johnson & Wales University Wildcat Classic.
