GRAY — The Freeport High School field hockey team broke into the win column with a 2-0 Western Maine Conference win over Gray-New Gloucester on Thursday.

Dani Foster opened the scoring, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead midway through the opening frame. Sophomore Bailey Coffin quickly doubled the lead.

Midfielder Abby Smith was solid for Freeport, 1-2 and slated to visit Old Orchard Beach on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Goaltender Morgan Karnes was called upon to make just one save for the shutout.

The visiting Indians, coming off their first loss since 2009, jumped out to a 5-0 halftime lead in a win over the Dragons, who fell to 0-4 in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference and visit Lawrence on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Brooke Michaena had five goals to lead 3-1 Skowhegan, with Lauret Blanc and Carly Clement adding two goals apiece.

At Topsham, Julia Sicard scored at 5:23 of the first 7- on-7 overtime to lift the visiting Broncos to a KVAC win.

Alyssa Curit scored the goal for the Eagles, 0-4 and slated to visit Skowhegan on Saturday at 11 a.m.

Haley Frizzle turned aside seven shots for Mt. Ararat, while Rebecca Ramsey had three stops for Hampden Academy (1-3).
