OAKLAND — Julia Champagne scored two goals as the Brunswick High School girls soccer team downed Messalonskee, 4-3, in a highscoring Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday.

“I thought we played great up until 70 minutes and we were cruising 4-0, but the last 10 minutes we lost our composure and conceded some sloppy goals,” said Brunswick coach Martyn Davison, whose team improved to 2-2 and hosts Bangor on Friday at 6 p.m. “I thought Kassidy Scarponi, Julia Champagne and Alicia Davis were excellent going forward, and in defense Emily Cowan, Aidan Sachs, Sarah Ferdinand and Sabina Smith were very good.”

Davis and freshman Maeve Arthur tallied one goal each for the Dragons, while Emily Black, Scarponi and Kira Wolpow dished out one assist apiece.

Kassidy McPhearson led Messalonskee with two goals, with one coming from Fern Calkins.

Brunswick goaltender Madeline Brescia had 11 saves in the win, while Eagles netminder Abigail Ainslie turned aside 14 Brunswick shots. The Dragons finished with an 18-14 shots advantage.

ERSKINE 2

Erskine Academy handed the Shipbuilders a KVAC Class B loss on Monday at South China.

“We had trouble getting on track in the first half, and by the time we did we were behind by two goals,” said Morse coach Steve Boyce, whose Shipbuilders host Belfast on Friday at 5 p.m.

Morse (2-2) goaltender Alesha Aucoin kept the game close, turning aside 20 Eagle shots.

Christina Belanger scored both goals for Erskine (4-0), while goaltender Cass Ray had nine stops. Picking up one assist each was Mallory Chamberlain and Avery Bond.

In the second half, Morse outshot Erskine Academy, 3- 1, but was unable to find the back of the net.

RICHMOND 5
RANGELEY 0

Meranda Martin and Amber Loon scored two goals each as Richmond coasted to an East-West Conference win.

The Bobcats improved to 4-0 and visit Valley on Friday (7 p.m.), while the Lakers fell to 2-1.

Kelsea Anair chipped in one goal, with Loon and Martin each picking up an assist.

Kelsie Obi had three saves for the win, while Rangeley netminder Sydney Boyce turned aside 24 shots.

HALL- DALE 5

Dani and Thea Sweet combined on four goals as the host Bulldogs picked up a big Mountain Valley Conference win over previously unbeaten Wiscasset, which dropped to 3-1 and visits Lisbon on Thursday at 4 p.m.

Lilly Ly added one goal for Hall-Dale (3-1).

Olivia Maynard turned aside four shots in net for Hall-Dale, while senior netminder Kayla Gordon had nine stops for Wiscasset.

LISBON 2
DIRIGO 1

At Dixfield, the Greyhounds remained unbeaten, pulling out an MVC win over Dirigo.

Deliah Schrieber had both Lisbon goals, including the game-winning tally with just 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

Megan Bradbury had the goal for the Cougars.

In goal, Ali Sult had nine saves in the win, while Mariah LaFleur stopped eight Lisbon shots.

YARMOUTH 4
FREEPORT 2

Katie Clemmer ignited a second-half rally as the Clippers (2-1) came from behind to defeat Freeport, which fell to 1-3 and hosts Gray-New Gloucester on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

Clemmer’s goal off a corner kick tied the game with 26 minutes remaining in regulation, and Yarmouth tallied two more times down the stretch to put Freeport away.

The Falcons grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Jill Baker and Maddie Squibb, both assisted by Julie Smith.

Eavan O’Neill scored late in the opening frame to get Yarmouth on the board.

Freeport goaltender Izzy Qualls had 16 saves.
