As the Chocolate Church Arts Center embarks on the 2014-15 performance season, it is appropriate to publicly thank outgoing President Joe Byrnes for his support of CCAC.
A little over a year ago, CCAC was in dire financial straits and the community was threatened with the loss of its iconic arts center and the historic 1847 building we have occupied for almost 40 years. Joe stepped in with his own money and countless hours of effort that saved us from total loss
After we hired Jennifer DeChant as our new executive director last summer, she and Joe moved CCAC in a new direction, and focused our outreach and programming to a more communitybased business model. Our upcoming season demonstrates that we are heading in the right direction with outstanding local and nationally-known artists and performers.
The Board of Trustees wishes Joe fair winds and following seas in all his endeavors.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
