BRUNSWICK

The first two weeks of The Times Record staff picks in the National Football League has been in a word, rough.

Upsets! Wow, we can’t remember a season where there have been so many stunning decisions in the early part of the season. The Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans are 2-0, while the New York Giants and New Orleans Saints are 0-2. Down is up, left is right, black is white, and cats and dogs are getting along.

It must be said though … Our readers are certainly performing much better than most of us at The Times Record.

Our Week 1 reader’s poll winner, Walt Crocker of West Bath picked 10 right, while this last week’s winner, Marie Neale of Topsham, picked 11! That’s right. 11, in what was upset central in the NFL. The Browns over the Saints, Da Bears knocking off the 49ers, San Diego beating the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Neale had each of these picks right, along with taking Dallas and Philadelphia. Play the lottery, quick!

Remember, playing our readers picks NFL poll is free. Just clip yours out of the Monday or Tuesday sports section, go online and print it off, or simply stop by The Times Record (3 Business Parkway, Suite 1, Brunswick) and fill out the poll. No purchase is necessary. It is really that simple.

As for the standings at The Times Record, our publisher/ advertising director (the boss) Larry Hubner has the bragging rights through two weeks, leading the way with an 18-14 record. Shelley King and Tracy Sautter are one game back, Stacy Wight two games back, and bringing up the rear three picks behind are Rob Montana, Doug Parry, Patrick Gabrion and yours truly, yes the sports editor, with 15-17 marks.

Yikes! At least there are 15 more weeks of the NFL regular season left. It has to get better. It just has to.
