‘Not Far from the Tree’ A Talk About Old Time Apples in Maine.
Saturday September 27th 1-3pm, Phippsburg Elementary School Gymnasium
Join Maine apple farmer and author John Bunker for a discussion and identification of heirloom apple varieties found here in Maine. John has been involved with apples for over 30 years, and is currently working with the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association on the creation of the Maine Heritage Orchard at MOFGA’s Unity, Maine headquarters. Examples of different apples will be on hand and local residents are encouraged to bring apples from their property for identification. Afterwards we will press some Phippsburg cider. Everyone is encouraged to bring apples for both identification and pressing. Bring clean containers to take some cider with you. This event is free but we encourage donations.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
