WOOLWICH

Traffic was snarled following a two vehicle crash on Route 127 in Woolwich Thursday afternoon.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department was called to the crash at 3:46 p.m., reported near the intersection of Middle and Dana Mill roads.

According to Chief Deputy Brett Strout, the two vehicles involved were both headed north on Route 127 (Middle Road). A 2010 Ford Transit driven by Sue Whittaker, 53, of Woolwich had slowed to turn into a driveway.

A second vehicle, a Chevy Impala driven by John Hood, 49, of South Gardiner, was several vehicles back, Strout said, and passed the line of vehicles on the double yellow line not realizing the foremost car was turning left into a driveway. Hood struck the turning vehicle driven by Whittaker.

Hood was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for evaluation and Whittaker was checked on scene and released, Strout said. Hood was issued a summons for driving to endanger.
