SACO — In celebration of its 15th year of providing community nature programs, The Ecology School will be offering the family nature event, “Ferry Beach Nature Quest: A Fun, Family Adventure” on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to noon at Ferry Beach State Park as part of the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend.
Participants can join The Ecology School and Ferry Beach State Park naturalists for an ecosystem scavenger hunt. Starting at the Ferry Beach State Park Nature Center, families will head out in teams to visit nine different ecosystems: a secondary dune, primary dune, Saco Bay beach, The Ecology School Organic Garden & Green Building, the Grove Forest, Short Pond vernal pool, Long Pond and the Tupelo Swamp, solving clues along the way to navigate their way back to the nature center for refreshments and prizes.
This event has been very popular in the past, organizers say, so reservations are suggested. For more information and to make reservations, contact Alex Grindle, The Ecology School, at 283-9951 or [email protected].

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
