The voters of House District 51 (Harpswell, West Bath, and East Brunswick) have the opportunity to elect an exceptional new legislator in November. Jay McCreight worked as a social worker with children and families for more than 30 years, 20 of those in Maine public schools. She is running for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jeremy Saxton, D-Harpswell, and is supported by Jeremy. I urge fellow residents to support her at the polls on Nov. 4.

Jay is passionate about creating a bright future for every child. She is committed to improving public education at all levels–from Headstart through our community college and university system. She worked in Headstart for nine years, and calls the program “one of the best investments we can make” in education. She knows that our schools must prepare all students for jobs of the future, noting that quality schools are one of the best ways to create a vibrant economy for our state.

Jay is a strong believer in access to health care for all Maine people. She calls herself “an advocate for children and families.” She will work toward creating a more inclusive and cost-effective health care system that stresses preventative health and quality care for people of all ages.

Jay is committed to finding ways to make it possible for more seniors to stay in their own homes. She often speaks about her interest in strengthening home health care for seniors, improving the energy efficiency of their homes (reducing costs of heating), and exploring other options that help keep Maine’s older residents independent and engaged in their communities.

Jay cares deeply about Maine’s environment. Living in a fishing community, she understands that we must protect rivers and coastal waters so that our clam flats, estuaries, and bays are healthy habitat for shellfish and fin fish. She sees clearly the link between a clean, healthy environment and a strong 21st century economy.

Importantly, Jay is committed to running a positive campaign. Take a few minutes to get to know her when she comes to your door. Let her know what issues or problems are on your mind. You will find Jay McCreight to be a good listener, and she will be a thoughtful problem solver when we send her to Augusta.
