The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Maine State Police have suspended their search for a 17-year-old boy who allegedly threatened a woman with a knife Tuesday afternoon before fleeing into a wooded area off Mayall Road in Gray.

Chief Deputy Naldo Gagnon said the search for the teenager, who is not being identified because he is a juvenile, will resume Wednesday. Gagnon said police do not believe the public is in any danger, but urged residents to lock their doors and use caution if they should encounter the suspect.

Three police dogs were involved with the search, but they “became exhausted,” Gagnon said, and with dark setting in, officers decided to suspend the search.

The boy is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt, brown pants and a blue hat with the letter B on it.

Gagnon said police know who the youth is. There are already several outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Police said the suspect ran away from a home at 282 Mayall Road in Gray around 4:20 p.m.
