SACO — Two men face charges of aggravated assault and robbery after allegedly beating up a taxi cab driver and taking his money early Tuesday morning.

Saco police were called by the Twin City Taxi dispatcher and were told one of the company’s drivers had been attacked by two men he had driven to Saco from Old Orchard Beach.

Police responded to the Brookside Inn at 30 Ocean Park Road in Saco just after 2 a.m. The driver was bleeding badly from a cut above his right eye and had other injuries, though none of his wounds were life threatening, police said.

The altercation started after an argument concerning a woman that all three men know, police said. As the driver tried to collect his $10 fare, the men punched him in his upper body and head and then demanded all his money, police said.

The two left with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police interviewed several witnesses and were able to find and arrest Lance M. Palmer, 45, of Auburn, and Travis Donahue, 42, of Old Orchard Beach, in connection with the incident.

Both were taken to York County Jail where they are being held in lieu of $10,000 bail. They are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 30.

The driver was taken to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford for treatment.
