SANFORD — The AMVETS Post 3 Ladies Auxiliary in Sanford plans a number of efforts to help needy families this holiday season, from holiday gift baskets to toys for kids. They plan to donate Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets to needy families this season and are hoping to raise funds to prepare 10 baskets ”“ five for each holiday.
Checks for holiday baskets should be made out to the ladies auxiliary, and mailed to P.O. Box 498, Sanford, to the attention of Shirley Girard and the holiday food basket program.
As well, the auxiliary, AMVETS and the Sons of AMVETS are collecting non- perishable food and personal hygiene items through Nov. 3. Items may be dropped off at the post on School Street.
Donated clothing, food and personal hygiene items benefit Southern Maine Families in Need, homeless shelters, children’s after-school programs and women’s shelters.
The auxiliary is also collecting new, unwrapped toys for the U.S. Marine Toys for Tots Program.
