UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Carmelo Anthony scored 16 points and the New York Knicks earned their first victory of the preseason Saturday with a 96-80 win over the Boston Celtics.

J.R. Smith added 14 for New York (1-1), while Tim Hardaway Jr. and Cleanthony Early had 11 apiece off the bench. The Knicks lost to the Celtics in Hartford on Wednesday.

Smith hit consecutive 3-pointers late in the third quarter, helping the Knicks increase the lead to 78-64 heading to the fourth. Boston got no closer than four in the final quarter.

Jared Sullinger and Marcus Thornton scored 15 points apiece for Boston (2-2), which lost for the second time in two nights.

Brandon Bass scored 12 points for the Celtics and Evan Turner added 11.

The Knicks shot 54 percent in the first half and led 53-47 at halftime.

CAVALIERS 122, HEAT 119: LeBron James scored seven points while playing only 20 minutes against his former team, and Cleveland went on to beat Miami in overtime at Rio de Janeiro.

Kevin Love finished with 25 points in an entertaining game in the beachfront city that will host the 2016 Olympics.

Chris Bosh led Miami with 19 points. The Cavaliers are 2-0 in the preseason and the Heat fell to 0-3.

The HSBC Arena, which will be used for gymnastics during the Olympics, had a sold-out crowd of 15,411, with the top ticket advertised at $350 and green and yellow Brazilian flags adding to the color.

SPURS 96, FENERBAHCE ULKER 90: Tim Duncan had 23 points and Tony Parker added 22 to help San Antonio beat Turkish team Fenerbahce Ulker at Istanbul.

Parker and Duncan each grabbed seven rebounds and Parker also had seven assists for the defending NBA champions, who were coming off a 94-93 loss to Alba Berlin on Wednesday night in Germany. Manu Ginobili added 12 points and eight rebounds.

Former College of Charleston guard Andrew Goudelock had 30 points for Fenerbahce Ulker.

NOTES

WIZARDS: Guard Bradley Beal will need surgery on his left wrist, and it’s not clear yet how long he’ll be sidelined.

Beal had an MRI exam Saturday that showed he has a non-displaced fracture of a bone in his non-shooting wrist.

He was hurt in the first quarter of a preseason game against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday night.

The Wizards said they will announce a timeline for Beal’s recovery after the operation.

Beal averaged 17.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season.
