BIDDEFORD — Melvin I. Hussey, 85, of Biddeford, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 2, 1929 in Biddeford, the eldest of thirteen children of Isaac M. and Edith (Rumery) Hussey.

He was educated in Biddeford schools.

Melvin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

On Nov. 21, 1953, he married Betty Monroe in Goodwin’s Mills.

He was employed at Saco-Lowell/Maremont for 20 years and then left to run his own sawmill, Hussey’s Custom Sawmill. He also operated a family farm with gardens and livestock, large enough to feed family and share with friends.

Melvin enjoyed hunting with his brothers and sons, and some occasional fishing.

He was preceded in death by: two brothers, Charles and Arthur Hussey; and a sister, Jane Allen.

Surviving are: his wife of 60 years, Betty Hussey of Biddeford

four daughters, Debra Wooldridge of Ft. Myers, Florida, Diane Cyr and her husband Charles of Biddeford, Doreen Lindquist and her husband Keith of Lyman and Dorothy Gregoire and her husband Kenneth of Arundel; four sons, Dennis Hussey and his wife Dianne, Douglas Hussey and his fiancée Brenda Whitworth, David Hussey and Darrell Hussey and his fiancée Tammy Jones, all of Biddeford; four sisters, Lillian Monroe of Lyman, Laura Randall of Arundel, Lois Stillings of Berwick and Maryann Anderson of Saco; five brothers, Carl, Kenneth, Roy and Phillip Hussey, all of Biddeford, and Richard Hussey of Lyman; 25 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME 04005. A time of remembrances will be held at 7 p.m. during the evening visitation. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014 at Kingdom Hall, 5 Shadagee Road, Saco.
