When the Lisbon High School girls soccer team faced St. Dom’s earlier in the season, Saints standout Kym Johnson blanketed Greyhounds leading scorer Deliah Schreiber as the Saints slipped away with a 1-0 Mountain Valley Conference win.

In the rematch in the MVC season finale for both teams on Monday, Schreiber got her revenge, scoring the game-winning goal with 2:40 left in the first overtime for a 2-1 win.

Lisbon concluded the regular season with an 8-3-3 mark, while St. Dom’s finished 11-3. The win moved the Greyhounds up to sixth in the Western Maine Class C Heal Point Standings, while the Saints remained in fourth. If the standings hold, both teams will have a preliminary contest.

Schreiber credited the hard work of her teammates for this win.

“That came from the team, all the hard work that we have put in, and this is our fourth overtime this season and somehow we find that energy,” said Schreiber, who also scored on a firsthalf penalty kick for Lisbon’s other goal. “We had some good practices and got together on Sunday and did some extra training.”

“This is really big,” said Lisbon defender Kailyn Hill, who along with Greyhounds Jasmine Le, Abby Gamache, Chandler Riordan, Loren Grant and goaltender Ali Sult (three saves), kept Saints standout Faith Grady off the scoreboard. “We want to go far, really wanted to win. This game shows that we are here to fight.”

Lisbon assistant coach Saige Purser, standing in for head coach Jake Gentle, said her team worked in practice to find room for Schreiber, especially after the job John- son did in holding the Lisbon standout without a shot back on Sept. 26.

“We worked on getting wide and passing, and it really showed today,” said Purser. “They came out today wanting to win, played with heart and it showed.”

“We used our passing to create space. Last game we held the ball too much, where today we used quick passing,” said Schrieber. “We really wanted this game. This is important. We haven’t beaten this team in years, so this is a big confidence booster for us.”

The Greyhounds claimed a 1-0 lead just 3:31 into the contest. Schreiber carried the ball toward the St. Dom’s goal and became entangled with a Saints defender. The trailing referee awarded a penalty kick, and Schreiber slipped a shot inside the left post past the dive of St. Dom’s netminder Nicole Robitaille (three saves).

That was the lone shot Lisbon generated in the opening frame. Grady, Kirsten Conner and Johnson helped cut the field in half, with Sult forced to make three stops, including a oneon one save on Grady.

“We knew that we had to contain Faith Grady, an amazing player, and we were lucky to keep it away from her today,” said Purser.

St. Dom’s continued to press for the tying goal in the second half. Conner launched a shot inches wide of Sult’s cage off of a direct kick, and Grady, who missed some time after a hard firsthalf collision, sent a Johnson pass high and wide.

The hard work by the hosts paid off. With 22:34 remaining in regulation, Johnson turned the Saints first corner kick into a goal, with her shot clipping off the left past and past Sult.

Lisbon had its chances in the second frame, led by Grant, whose pass was tipped wide by Kaylin Le. Moments later, Greyhounds midfielder Katherin George sent a shot that bounced inches left of Robitaille’s cage.

Lisbon countered a St. Dom’s attack in overtime with one its own. The bouncing ball caromed to Schreiber, whose shot was true for the win.

St. Dom’s finished with a 13-8 shots advantage and a 3- 2 edge in corner kicks.
