PORTLAND (AP) — A Maine television station has canceled a debate in the race for the 2nd Congressional District seat after Democrat Emily Cain said she wouldn’t attend.
WMTW-TV was planning to host a debate between Cain and Republican Bruce Poliquin on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
WMTW says Cain told the station Thursday she will be skipping the debate because independent Blaine Richardson wasn’t invited.
The station says Richardson doesn’t meet its criteria for debates because he hasn’t raised enough money and is polling in the single digits, among other things.
WMTW News Director Amy Beveridge said after Cain’s announcement that the station will no longer host the debate.
The three candidates will meet in a debate at 7:30 tonight that will air on WSCH-TV in Portland and WLBZ-TV in Bangor.
