Portland is considering creating a citywide bicycle-sharing program.
A spokeswoman for Portland says its department of planning and urban development is issuing a request for information from bike share vendors interested in working with the city. The spokeswoman says the city is interested in gathering information and “non-binding cost estimates” for a possible bicycle sharing program.
The bike sharing program would be geared to serve residents, commuters, tourists and others. The request for information does not include a selection process for a final vendor.
City Planning & Urban Development Director Jeff Levine says the city is looking for regional partners and private companies to bring a bicycle program to Portland. He says Portland is not going to be able to fund or implement a system on its own.
