RICHMOND — The Bobcats only needed one win to advance to the regional finals, and on Friday the No. 1 Western Class D Richmond High School boys soccer team (16-0) made it look easy, rolling to an 8-2 victory over No. 4 Greater Portland Christian (12-3-1) in the semifinal round.
Cody Tribbet tallied up a hat trick for the Bobcats, with two of his three goals assisted by Curtis Anderson. Also joining Tribbet with a hat trick of his own was forward Marcus Blake, who took all three to the net with no assists. Brendan Emmons and Anderson each scored a goal in the contest.
Ethan Spaulding scored both goals for the Lions, with both unassisted.
“I thought we did some nice things out there,” Bobcats coach Peter Gardner said after the game. “I still think there’s room to improve, but I think (my team) does too, which is kind of nice that they think there’s room to improve.”
With the win, Richmond advances to the Western Class D Finals and will host No. 2 Buckfield on Wednesday for the Western D title. The Bobcats downed the Bucks twice by close 2-1 scores during the East-West Conference regular season. The game is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
