I am writing to express my bewilderment with the Brunswick town council and their decision to hire John Eldridge as town manager. I do not know Mr. Eldridge and he very well might be the best candidate nor do I blame him for grabbing a gravy filled contract but I’m guessing that the town finance director/interim manager is exempt to the rules on accrued vacation time (max. 240 hours with no carryover past the 240 hours). The new contract pays almost half of the 1,300 hours that Mr. Eldridge accrued (What!) plus puts back into the bank 240 hours ( maxed out again!) add to this the $112,000 per year salary plus benefits. This while the town council isn’t even close to a unanimous (5-3) vote with the still bitter aftertaste of the Gary Brown issues. I do not live in Brunswick but I am astounded that the town council is disregarding their stewardship for the town of Brunswick. Shame on those that voted for this contract. Who is looking out for the taxpayers?
