BRUNSWICK — Bowdoin College junior forward Rachel Kennedy has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Kennedy scored five goals in a pair of wins last week as the Polar Bears secured the top seed for the NESCAC Tournament and advanced to the semifinals for the 10th consecutive season. The junior spearheaded a first-half avalanche for the Polar Bears, scoring three times in a 15-minute span in the opening frame against Tufts to spark an eventual 4-0 win.
On Saturday in the NESCAC quarterfinals, Kennedy scored twice in the opening 8:11 to lead Bowdoin in a 6-0 win over Hamilton. She scored on five of her eight shots (.625) last week.
Kennedy currently ranks second all-time in career goals at Bowdoin with 63, and sits tied for second in single-season goals scored at 27. In her last eight games, the junior has netted 21 goals for Bowdoin, including a pair of four-goal games against Williams and Rhodes.
The second-ranked Polar Bears earned the top seed in the NESCAC after posting a 9-1 record during the regular season. After defeating Hamilton last Saturday, the team advanced to the semifinals, which will be hosted in Brunswick beginning on Saturday with semifinal action.
