I recently rode the Downeaster from Brunswick to Boston and on from Boston to New York with 40 minutes to change in between from North Station to South Station. The change can be done by subway or taxi, but the trip would be so much better if the service was straight through Massachusetts without that hassle. I think it’s a brilliant idea to run train service between Maine points and New York City to give residents of both states the opportunity to travel to visit family, friends or for tourism without having to make the drive.
The Downeaster has been in Brunswick for a year now. It’s great for business, it’s fun and helpful for the passengers and it’s here to stay. It has helped make Brunswick a destination which it is worthy of. Can we please get on with building the maintenance facility already so an afternoon train may be added between Brunswick and Boston? Delaying the inevitable only ends up costing more money.
