BRUNSWICK — Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder that can damage the lining of the intestine and is triggered by eating gluten, the protein found in wheat and other grains. What is the difference between gluten intolerance and celiac disease? Can you benefit from reducing gluten in your diet?
Two experts will answer those questions and more at 7 p.m. today in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. Dr. Calin Stoicov, gastroenterologist from Mid Coast Hospital, will speak on understanding celiac disease and Mary Penner, nurse practitioner from Parkview Adventist Medical Center, will speak on the gluten-free diet.
This program is free and no advance registration is required. For more information, call 725-5242 ext. 510 or visit the library website at www.curtislibrary.com.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
