WASHINGTON (AP) — Alex Ovechkin became the leading scorer in Capitals’ history, raising his career point total to 827 with a pair of assists in Washington’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.

Sean Monahan scored the winning goal for Calgary at 4:17 of the extra period after the Flames tied it late in regulation.

Washington has lost five straight since winning at Calgary on Oct. 25.

Ovechkin moved atop the scoring list when his shot from the left point was deflected by Nicklas Backstrom through the legs of goalie Jonas Hiller at 10:18 of the first period.

That broke a tie with Peter Bondra.

The 29-year-old Ovechkin, a native of Moscow, has 428 goals and 399 assists.

Flyers 4, Oilers 1

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Jakub Voracek scored two goals, and Steve Mason made 35 saves to earn his first win of the season as the Flyers beat Edmonton.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare and Luke Schenn added goals for the Flyers, who began a four-game homestand with their third straight win on their own ice. They dropped their first three games in Philadelphia.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the Oilers, who opened a five-game trip with their third straight loss.

Hurricanes 4, B-Jackets 2

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Zach Boychuk, Riley Nash, Justin Faulk and Eric Staal scored in the Hurricanes’ win over the Blue Jackets.

The Hurricanes, who started 0-6-2, have won three in a row. Cam Ward made 17 saves.

Nick Foligno scored twice for the injury-riddled Blue Jackets, who have lost six in a row.

Curtis McElhenny, the backup to the injured Sergei Bobrovsky, stopped 33 shots.

Blues 1, Devils 0

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Vladimir Tarasenko scored a power-play goal early in the third period and the Blues extended their winning streak to six games with a victory over the Devils.

Jake Allen stopped 26 shots in earning his second straight shutout and ending the Devils’ two-game winning streak.

The NHL’s No. 1 star last week, Tarasenko has seven goals in the last five games and the deciding tally for two straight games. He netted the clinching shootout goal against the New York Rangers on Monday.

Cory Schneider made 22 saves.

B-Hawks 2, Habs 0

MONTREAL (AP) — Kris Versteeg scored twice, and Corey Crawford made 28 saves in his 11th NHL shutout as Chicago ended a two-game skid with a victory over the Canadiens.

Jonathan Toews, netted his 200th NHL goal, and Brad Richards and Patrick Kane also scored for Chicago (7-5-1), which came off a 1-0 home loss to Winnipeg on Sunday. It was the first shutout of the season for Crawford, a Montreal native.

The Canadiens (8-4-1), winless in three games and 1-3-1 in their last five, absorbed a second straight lopsided defeat at home, following a 6-2 loss to Calgary on Sunday. Carey Price made 27 saves.

Penguins 4, Wild 1

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Thomas Greiss made 33 saves while extending Pittsburgh’s shutout streak to 205 minutes, 28 seconds, and the Penguins handed the Wild their first defeat in six home games.

Nick Spaling, Brandon Sutter and Chris Kunitz scored for the Penguins, whose run of unanswered goals also ended at 18 when Nino Niederreiter got one on a breakaway for the Wild with 9:18 left. Rob Scuderi had two assists for the Penguins, who won their fifth straight game. Their margin of victory is a whopping 22-5.

The Wild were the last team in the NHL to lose at home this season.

Senators 3, Red Wings 1

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Erik Karlsson had a goal and an assist in the Senators’ win over Detroit.

Patrick Wiercioch’s first goal of the season was the winner. He moved in from the point and beat goalie Jimmy Howard with a wrist shot with less than six minutes to play.

Clarke MacArthur scored into an empty net at 19:02 to give the Senators (6-3-2) the win.

Henrik Zetterberg scored the lone goal for the Red Wings (6-3-3), putting a backhander past Craig Anderson at 3:34 of the third to make it 1-1.

Both teams had 32 shots.

Jets 3, Predators 1

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Andrew Ladd, Mark Scheifele scored power-play goals 2:36 apart in the first period and the Jets beat Nashville.

Blake Wheeler added an empty-net goal to seal the win for the Jets (7-5-1). Winnipeg has won three straight and five of six, improving to 3-3 at home.

Filip Forsberg scored Nashville’s (7- 3-1) only goal to bring the Predators within 2-1 late in the second period.

The Jets set a franchise record for the amount of time between goals allowed.

With back-to-back shutouts in New York and Chicago, Winnipeg had gone 161 minutes, 17 seconds without giving up a goal until Forsberg scored at 16:17 of the second period.

Kings 3, Stars 1

DALLAS (AP) — Dustin Brown and Kyle Clifford scored third-period goals and the Kings rallied to beat the Stars.

The victory allowed Los Angeles to salvage the final game of a 1-3-1 road trip.

Dallas is 0-3-2 in the last five games, and 1-1-4 at home this season.

Canucks 5, Avs 2

DENVER (AP) — Nick Bonino scored two goals, Ryan Miller made 20 saves and the Canucks overcame an early deficit to beat the Avalanche.

Henrik Sedin and Derek Dorsett also scored for the Canucks. Chris Higgins had two assists for Vancouver.

Semyon Varlamov had 32 saves and John Mitchell and Jamie McGinn had goals for the Avalanche, which has lost three straight. Colorado, which started last season 12-1, is 3-6-5.

Coyotes 3, Maple Leafs 2

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Mike Smith stopped 28 shots, Sam Gagner scored in his second straight game and the Coyotes held off the Maple Leafs.

Arizona scored six goals in its last game and kept its offensive surge rolling, going up 3-0 by early second period against Toronto goalie James Reimer. Gagne and Martin Erat scored in the first period, Antoine Vermette in the second
