AUGUSTA (AP) — A Maine committee charged with studying the impacts of ocean acidification on the state’s environment may soon issue a draft of its recommendations.
The Maine Ocean Acidification Study Commission is meeting today in Augusta at 9 a.m. The 16-member council will report its findings to the state legislature’s Marine Resources Committee after it finalizes its recommendations.
The panel has been studying the effects of ocean acidification on shellfisheries, ecosystems and the environment. State officials have said the commission is the first of its kind in the eastern United States. They say the panel’s report will focus on the environmental and economic impacts of ocean acidification.
