FREEPORT – Freeport resident Dean Gilbert is branch manager of the new Mortgage Network office, which holds a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

The Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce, the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce and community leaders will be present for the ceremony.

Gilbert, who spent 13 years in the Portland office of Mortgage Network, is staffing the Freeport office from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, but is available by appointment after hours and on weekends.

“We expanded, we opened up a new branch, and I’m managing the new branch,” said Gilbert, 38. “I primarily focus on Cumberland County. We want to do local lending.”

Gilbert said that Mortgage Network, which opened in Freeport on Oct. 8, offers more options for people looking to purchase property.

“I believe the service is better,” he said. “When it comes down to the largest purchase of your life, you want to put that in the hands of a mortgage professional. We also have brokering capabilities.”

Gilbert said that the housing market is good.

“We’ve had a shortage of inventory, which has really helped property move fast,” he said. “Fortunately for us, rates have remained low. We’re running around 4 percent for 30 years, and in the low 3s for 15 years.”

Mortgage Network, one of the largest independent mortgage lenders in the Eastern United States, also can arrange reverse mortgages for people, Gilbert said. The new office will offer mortgage loan products that include conventional, non-conventional and government loans, as well.

Sande Updegraph, executive director of the Greater Freeport Chamber of Commerce, said that Gilbert joined the chamber on Mortgage Network’s behalf as soon as he knew the business was expanding to town.

A 1995 graduate of Waterville High School, Gilbert earned a business administration degree from the University of Southern Maine in 2000. He and his wife, Jaime, have three children, and have lived in Freeport for seven years.

“He is a longtime Freeport resident and is very involved in things like youth sports,” Updegraph said. “He is known in the community. It will be nice to have someone devoted specifically to that need.”

Gilbert can be reached at 417-7003, or dgilbert@mortgagenetwork.com.
