It is long overdue for residents of the area to condemn the actions of local gas stations–particularly those along Route 1 in Bath for their greed in gouging residents with exorbitantly high gasoline prices which are consistently 15- to 20 cents per gallon higher than surrounding communities. As a matter of fact, last Thursday, prices in Bath were $3.21 per gallon, while in Bangor, Augusta, and even Portland, are $2.95-$2.99 per gallon, and the statewide average price is $2.94.

One appreciates that everyone has a right to earn a fair and reasonable profit, however while the local mentality may be to gouge the “out-of-staters” travelling Route 1, the reality is that it is local folks who are really being penalized because they are reliant on local gas suppliers, and many are struggling financially — especially now that heating season is upon us.

One would hope that local folks would band together and refuse to patronize the greed of local area stations. We deserve much better!
