WEST BATH
A Brunswick man was treated at a local hospital this morning after his vehicle hit black ice and rolled several times along the Route 1.
Responding public safety personnel reported the bridge over the New Meadows was very icy.
Chief Deputy Brett Strout with the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department said the crash was reported at 5:07 a.m. Mark Bernier, 55, of Brunswick was traveling north on Route 1 in West Bath when his 2000 Ford Ranger hit black ice on the bridge in the area of the New Meadows off-ramp, spun around and flipped over several times before landing on the drivers side door. Bernier was able to crawl out of the vehicle and Strout said suffered injuries to his head, neck and chest area. Strout said Brunswick officer Julia Gillespie arrived first on scene and started first aid for Bernier.
