Maine’s October jobless rate of 5.8 percent remained unchanged from the previous month, and remains slightly lower than the rest of New England.
According to preliminary data released by the Maine Department of Labor, the New England unemployment rate averaged 5.9 percent. Rates for other states were 4.2 percent in New Hampshire, 4.4 percent in Vermont, 6.0 percent in Massachusetts, 7.4 percent in Rhode Island and 6.4 percent in Connecticut. Maine’s unemployment rate for October is down significantly from one year ago when it was 6.6 percent. According to a press release from the DOL, the number of unemployed people in Maine declined 5,300 over the year to 40,800.
