NORFOLK, Va. — Justin Hodgman scored his first two goals of the season and also had an assist as the Portland Pirates defeated the Norfolk Admirals 7-1 Saturday at Norfolk Scope Arena.

Hodgman set up Jordan Martinook, who scored on a hard wrister 1:45 into the second period to make it 2-0.

After Norfolk’s Matthew Pistilli scored on a power play at 6:27, Hodgman put in a crisp pass from Brendan Shinnimin 53 seconds later.

With 5:52 left in the second, Hodgman intercepted a pass, skated toward the net and dragged the puck to his forehand before beating goalie Yann Danis. The unassisted goal gave Portland a 4-1 lead and broke an 0-for-34 scoreless streak on the power play.

Portland added three goals in the third. Tyler Gaudet scored following another giveaway, Greg Carey put in a one-timer at 9:47, and Eric Selleck scored on a breakaway at 13:20.

Phil Lane scored the first goal late in the first period. Mike McKenna made 28 saves for the Pirates.
