It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and this means the upcoming workweek is a short one. It also means lots of travel for many, although most of that travel is usually done fairly close.

There’s going to be a lot of changing weather the next 7 days with temperatures being one aspect of the weather with major swings. There are three chances of precipitation this week. The first is very slim and the third chance could see some snow.

Still Breezy
Today is going to be a better day in terms of temperatures with highs reaching into upper 30s. Before you break out the shorts, a brisk breeze will keep it feeling chilly all day.

As the mild air streams north tonight there could be a light rain shower very late at night. In the mountains, if the shower occurs, some icing might appear in isolated spots.

Milder Sunday
We haven’t hit 50F in Portland in quite a while. Sunday will reach the upper 40s in the afternoon along with a blend of clouds and sunshine. There won’t be the breeze of today so it will feel even better. We will have to wait until Monday to break the 50 degree barrier.

Springlike Monday
Sunday night and early Monday a batch of rain will overspread the area. This rain marks the leading edge of very mild air. It’s going to feel like spring Monday afternoon after the rain ends and the sunshine breaks through the clouds. Highs will soar into the mid to upper 50s!

The timing of the rain could impact the Monday morning commute. Downpours are possible and this could really slow down the ride to work or school.

Tuesday continues pleasant with highs in the 50s and dry roads. Tuesday afternoon is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Be prepared for long delays during the evening commute.

The upper winds will undergo another change Wednesday and Thursday when the next batch of cold air from Canada clashes with the mild air along the coast. A storm system will form along the boundary and potentially bring some precipitation later Wednesday into early Thursday.

The map below is from the GFS model and has this storm too far out to sea for any impact to New England.

Other models have a closer pass and would bring some rain or snow. I don’t want to lean dry or stormy for Wednesday night and Thursday because the forecast is just too unsure at this time. Thanksgiving
Thursday afternoon will be brisk and partly sunny. The sun goes down around 4:15, so if you eat early and want to take a walk in the light you’ll need to be back inside by about 4:45.

The rest of the holiday weekend appears to be setting up dry with seasonable temperatures not too cold, but definitely feeling like the final few days of November.
