PORTLAND (AP) — The first major snowstorm of the season has had more than 100,000 customers without power in Maine at its peak.
Central Maine Power reports more than 75,000 homes and businesses without power by midday Thursday, down from 104,000. Many of the outages are in York and Cumberland counties.
Emera Maine reports more than 6,000 outages by midday Thursday, down from nearly 11,000. It expected to handle the majority of its restorations by the end of the day.
Both utilities are urging customers to stay away from downed power lines and to contact them if outages occur.
Speed limits on the Maine Turnpike from Exit 53 in Falmouth to the end of the turnpike at mile 109 have been reduced to 45 mph because of the snow.
