SHAPLEIGH — A 55-year-old Rochester, New Hampshire man was treated and released from the hospital Monday after his car was rear-ended by another vehicle on Emery Mills Road.
The crash took place around 1:15 p.m. when William Shields, 78, of Acton, driving a 2014 Ford F-250 pickup truck and plow, struck a 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage, driven by Douglas Welch.
York County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Bill King said Shields told deputies the Mitsubishi stopped abruptly in the road. Welch told police he was stopped in preparation to make a turn.
Welch was transported to Southern Maine Health Care by Shapleigh rescue units. He was treated and released.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
