BIDDEFORD — Sister Elena Dionne (Sr. St. Marguerite-du-Redempteur) died on Dec. 3, 2014, at the age of 91.

Elena was born on Sept. 21, 1923 in Van Buren. She was the youngest daughter born to Everett Dionne and Marguerite Tardif.

Elena received both her elementary and secondary education at Sacred Heart School in her home town of Van Buren. She received her bachelor’s degree in education from St. Joseph College in North Windham, followed by her master’s, majoring in early childhood education, from the University of Maine in Orono.

Following in the footsteps of her sister, Pauline, she entered the Congregation of the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Good Shepherd Sisters of Quebec) in Biddeford. After her profession of vows in 1943, Sr. Elena began her long teaching career, taking her to Old Town, North Caribou, Hamlin, Van Buren and Grand Isle, as well as to Methuen and Lawrence, Massachusetts. Sr. Elena specialized in early elementary education, but also taught music, singing and religious education. After she retired from full-time teaching in 1993, she was involved in adult education, remedial reading and private tutoring, no matter where she lived. In 2007, because of illness, Sr. Elena was transferred to St. Joseph Convent Infirmary.

Sr. Elena was preceded in death by: three sisters, Sr. Pauline Dionne, SCIM, Geraldine Dufresne and Monica Ferretti; and one brother, Bernard Dionne.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 and 9-10:45 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Convent, 409 Pool St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014 at St. Joseph Convent Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.
