SACO — A tractor-trailer truck carrying a partial load of building materials totaled its trailer after traveling under the train overpass on Beach Street Saturday night.
Around 7 p.m. a truck driver on Beach Street failed to recognize the height limitations of the 12-foot, 1-inch passageway, under the railroad bridge, said Saco Police Sgt. Corey Huntress.
The trailer of the truck was totaled, said Huntress.
“It completely peeled the entire top,” he said, and “the sides were hanging out.”
The tractor portion of the truck made it through and was not damaged, he said.
The driver of the truck, Michael Rowland, 50, of Middleton, Idaho, was summonsed and charged with striking a bridge.
No one was injured, said Huntress.
Traffic was held up until 10 p.m., he said. Amtrak trains were also delayed while Pan Am Railways officials inspected the railway’s integrity, he said.
