SANFORD — Five people have been arrested ”“ two of them on heroin charges ”“ following an early morning raid by police on a home in a newer Sanford cul”“de”“sac subdivision Tuesday morning.

Police said the raid came in response to neighborhood concerns about heavy traffic and other activity at 7 Calvin’s Way, a single family dwelling owned since 2007 by Jill Theriault, who was arrested on Class A felony drug charges.

Det. Eric Small said police heard the neighborhood concerns and took action.

He said police began watching the house some time ago, gathered intelligence, obtained a search warrant and executed it Tuesday morning.

The result, said Small, “makes that neighborhood a safer place.”

Theriault, 33, was arrested and charged with Class A felony aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs. According to Peter Mador of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, which assisted in the raid, Theriault was allegedly dealing in heroin and in a substance police believe may be fentanyl, a painkiller Mador described as “100 times” stronger than morphine. The drug will be tested to determine if it is indeed fentanyl or some other substance. A corrections officer at York County Jail this morning said Theriault is held in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Charged with Class B felony heroin trafficking was Seth Twohearts, 23, also of Sanford. He too is held at York County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Three other Sanford men were arrested in connection with non”“drug related crimes. Timothy Duval, 41, was arrested and charged with theft and misuse of identification, and was released from jail on an unspecified bail amount. Scott Bennett, 31, was arrested and charged with failing to appear on a charge of violating conditions of release and operating after suspension and is held on $250 bail. Louis Zucco, 33, was arrested and charged with failing to pay fines on a theft charge and his held on $685 bail.

The raid was the culmination of a joint drug investigation between detectives from the Sanford Police Department and special agents from MDEA, said Det. Sgt. Matthew Jones. He said police obtained a search warrant for the residence as well as multiple arrest warrants for occupants who were suspected of living there and dealing in drugs. A Maine State Police K”“9 team and members of Kennebunk Police Department also assisted during the service of the search warrant, Jones said.

Mador, of MDEA, said the operation was “good work” by the agencies involved.

“They were pretty busy over there,” he said of the alleged drug dealing.

“The team did a good job,” said Small. “It took care of a sizable problem because of the amount of the (alleged) trafficking going on.”
