WATERVILLE (AP) — A change.org petition aimed at pushing for criminal charges in the disappearance of a Maine toddler has been closed.
The family of the girl’s mother, Trista Reynolds, said the petition received more than 4,000 comments and helped improve communications with prosecutors on developments surrounding the 3-year-old investigation into what happened to Ayla Reynolds.
Ayla was reported missing from her father’s home on Dec. 17, 2011.
She has not been found and no one has been charged. But police say her father and two other adults in the house that night know more than they’ve told investigators.
Trista Reynolds’ father-inlaw, Jeff Hanson, said she and prosecutors are committed to working together to ensure that “all perpetrators are brought to justice.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
