SANFORD — William R. Costello, 87, formerly of Sanford and a resident of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 22 at his home, with his family by his side.
William was born in Sanford on April 24, 1927, a son of the late Ida M. (Roberts) and Peter J. Costello.
He was educated in Maine and then enlisted as a U.S. Marines during World War II, where he served his country proudly until being honorably discharged.
For many years, William worked at Raytheon and then Afco in Massachusetts.
He was preceded in death by: his sister, Dorothy Byron; brother, Raymond Costello; and his brother-in-law, Carlton Bickford.
William is survived and will be deeply missed by: his wife, Gertrude S. (Sampson) Costello of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts; his sister, Janet Bickford of Parsonsfield; brother, Roger Costello of Maryland; as well as many nieces and nephews.
