The photography of Brenda Mannino will be on display at the Wells Public Library through the month of January. Mannino is a self-taught photographer, and specializes in the digital alteration of photography. She is the author of “Photothoughtography.” There will be a free reception on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. Refreshments will be provided, and the artist will answer questions. Music

Women in Harmony will perform on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. at Woodfords Congregational Church on 202 Woodford St. in Portland. The program will focus on Women and Health and will interweave music about the concerns of the heart, including both romantic and parental love. There will also be readings related to women’s experiences with cardiac disease. Tickets are available at the door, online at www.wihmaine.org, or at Nonesuch or Longfellow books, or Starbird Music. Prices range from $10 – $15. Children under 12 are free.

Special Interest

Local author Monica Russo and photographer Kevin Byron have completed their fourth nature book, “BIRDOLOGY: 30 Activities and Observations for Exploring the World of Birds.” Published by Chicago Review Press, the book is designed for young readers 8 to 12, and includes “Teacher Topics” for classroom applications. The book is illustrated with photos and is scheduled for release Jan. 1. Byron has been a wildlife photographer for many years, and Russo wrote the Nature Notes column for the Sun Chronicle from 2006 through 2008.

Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express” will be shown on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Dunaway Center, 23 School St. in Ogunquit This is a continuation of the 14th Annual Classic Film Series featured by the Ogunquit Performing Arts.
