May 2014 photo by Heather Steeves/Online producer; historic photo courtesy of McArthur Library in Biddeford

A 1916 photograph shows Biddeford’s Laurier Rifles, a Franco-American military society, marching up Main Street in a celebration commemorating the 300th anniversary of Biddeford’s first European settlement in 1616. In the background, the upper stories of one of the Pepperell Mill buildings can be seen under construction.

The historic photograph is a digital scan of a glass plate negative from the collection of McArthur Library in Biddeford. Find more photos at www.pressherald.com/flashback/.
