Here’s my New Year’s wish list in no particular order for 2015:
1) May SMCC continue to maintain academic integrity of the highest order.
2) May student life continue to be vibrant on both our Midcoast and South Portland campuses with many opportunities for engagement and leadership.
3) May the Midcoast Campus’s new Learning Commons and Health Science Center — a onestop tech-infused academic and student support center — further enhance and build upon the campus’ success when it opens in 2015.
4) May every high school graduate be prepared for college level work and make college a high priority.
5) May our college’s comprehensive advising system engage every student and maximize success.
6) May new Mainers of all backgrounds and students from away become fully integrated into our college and our community.
7) May our Legislature, Governor and community partners see the innovations and inspiration our college drives and continue to invest in our future.
8) May we establish additional partnerships with public and private colleges and universities to allow our graduates to transfer seamlessly.
9) May we continue placing the highest value on our students, knowing SMCC exists for them.
10) And may a never-ending supply of SMCC graduates continue raising the economy and culture of Maine to new heights.
Here at SMCC, we are always looking toward the future and focusing our efforts in the direction of tomorrow. The arrival of the New Year is a time to reaffirm our wishes — our goals — for the year ahead.
SMCC had a great 2014. We enhanced our advising services to help students achieve success. We launched new scholarship programs to guide students to college completion and strengthen their development. We opened our newly renovated Computer Science & Engineering Center with new labs and updated curricula. We upgraded our integrated manufacturing laboratory with the latest technology. We know who we are, we’re comfortable in our identity and we live within our means.
When I look at our wish list for 2015, I see tremendous potential. It will be another great year.
