Sanford Fire Department paused Monday to recognize George Tarbox, who has been the department’s photographer for 21 years – and, said Fire Chief Steve Benotti, plans to continue in that capacity. Tarbox was supposed to have been recognized at a recent city council meeting, but was unable to attend. The award was a surprise to the photographer, said Benotti. “We felt it was important for us to recognize him for the thousands of photographs he has provided to us over the years, said Benotti. “George has helped to capture pieces of history,” of not only the fire department but also the city as well.”
Then, it was time for a photo – as shown here, with Benotti on the left and Tarbox, who is used to being on the other side of the lens, on the right.
