COOLING TEMPERATURES this week may be a boon to outdoor enthusiasts looking for family-friendly fun over the New Year’s holiday. Hardening ice was spotted at the Goddard Pond outdoor skating rink, located at the corner of High and Marshall streets in Bath. The lighted skating pond has signs to advise hopeful skaters if the pond is safe for use, which should be checked before venturing out onto the ice. A red sign indicates unsafe conditions and green indicates safe conditions. Though still showing “red” on Tuesday, continued low temperatures may harden the pond sufficiently for use. Goddard Pond skating is free to the public and has outdoor lighting until 9 p.m. The warming hut is open 3-9 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 9 p.m. on weekends, school vacation days and holidays.
