ARUNDEL — Jeanne L. Hamel, 71, of Arundel, died Dec. 31, 2014 at Gosnell Memorial in Scarborough.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1943 in Bidde-ford, to Maurice and Laurette (Richard) Cook.
She graduated from Biddeford High School, Class of 1981.
On Sept. 2, 1966, Jeanne married Edward Patrick Hamel at his house in Arundel. They spent 38 years together until his death on Dec. 26, 2004.
Jeanne worked as an accountant for different businesses until her retirement 10 years ago. She ran a catering business for a few years.
She ran the Saco Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary for many years. She was a member and treasurer for the Daughters of Isabella, she was also the treasurer for the Christmas Fair and was named Daughter of the Year in 2012. Jeanne and Edward were officers for the Independent Order of Foresters. She was a former treasurer for the La Kermesse. She helped the Knights of Columbus at La Kermesse. She was a first responder on the Brookline, New Hampshire ambulance service. She was also a Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout Den mother.
Jeanne enjoyed campfires, knitting, playing cards, bingo, cooking, spending time with family and friends, stamp collecting, and her cats, Misty and Pebbles.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Maurice and Laurette Cook; and her sister, Georgie Blais.
Jeanne is survived by: her children, Brenda L. Hamel and her significant other Thunder Flick Sr. of Arundel, Elaine Clements and her husband Richard of Ayer, Massachusetts and Bryan P. Hamel and his wife Stacy of Pembroke, New Hampshire; six grandchildren, Eryn, Monica, Alison, Phillip, Thunder Jr. and Jeremiah; six great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Cook and his wife Doris of Biddeford; her dear friend, Annette Normand; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Anne’s Chapel of the Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
