Striped Bass Hearing, 5 p.m. in Yarmouth

An informational meeting about striped bass regulations hosted by the Maine Department of Marine Resources has been rescheduled to Monday. It will be held at the Yarmouth Log Cabin at 196 Main St. The meeting will provide an opportunity for department staff along with Commissioner Patrick Keliher to discuss and solicit input on management options designed to achieve a reduction in the harvest of striped bass by 25 percent from 2013. Maine has a year-round, recreational-only striper fishery. There are special regulations in effect from Dec. 1 through June in the Kennebec, Sheepscot and Androscoggin rivers, and tributaries. Current regulations allow a fisherman to take and possess one striper per day. The striper may be from 20 to 26 inches in length, or 40 inches or longer. Options being discussed include a range of bag and size limits that would result in harvest reductions between 26 and 31 percent. After receiving input the department will bring a preferred option to public hearings later in January. Call 633-9505.

Beaver Tales, 6:30 p.m. in Holden

Join Maine Master Naturalist Christy Stout at Maine Audubon’s Fields Pond Nature Center and learn about beavers. How do they survive the winter? What is life like locked under the ice? Discover more about these amazing creatures, their family life and their winter challenges. Cost is $5 for individuals and $8 for families. Call 989-2591. Penny Lake Preserve 10 a.m. in Boothbay

Get out on the trails for a guided walk with the Boothbay Region Land Trust. The nature hike series meets throughout the year and visits a different preserve each time for a moderately paced hike averaging two miles. Discover the preserves throughout the seasons and meet fellow hikers. This event is free and registration is not required. The group meets at the trailhead lot off Route 27. Turn off 27 between the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce and the Flagship Inn, and proceed past the Carousel Theater to the land trust’s parking area.
