KENNEBUNK — Leila Ruth (Hartley) Simonds, 86, of Kennebunk, died unexpectedly Jan. 5 at her home.
Born June 21, 1928 in Sanford, Maine to Clement and Ruth (Downs) Hartley, she attended Sanford and Dover, New Hampshire schools and graduated from Kennebunk High in 1946.
On Aug. 5, 1950, she married Jack D. Simonds of Cape Neddick.
She is survived by: her son, Michael and his wife Laurea of Rochester, New Hampshire; daughter, Jacquelyn of Weare, New Hampshire; son, Thomas and his wife Tori of Scarborough; sister, Sandra (Goodrich) Jones of Kennebunk; brother, Wayne Goodrich of Florida; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
She was predeceased by: her husband in 1970; her son, Harvey, in 2009; and her companion of over thirty-five years, Charles Cole, in 2013.
At her request, there will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. at Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.
Memorial donations can be made to the Acton Fire Rescue, c/o Acton Fire Department, 35 H Road, Acton, ME 04001 in honor of her late son, Harvey Simonds.
Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.
