OAKLAND — Julia Champagne scored 22 points as the Brunswick High School girls basketball team cruised to a 64-40 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Messalonskee on Thursday.

The Dragons improved to 5-4 and visit “Battle of the Bridge” rival Mt. Ararat on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

Brunswick jumped out to a 17-12 first-quarter lead and outscored the Eagles (6-5) 20- 7 in the second for a 37-19 halftime lead.

Gillian Doehring had a solid game with 17 points for the Dragons, while Madeline Suhr chipped in 12.

McKenna Brodeur led Messalonskee with 10 points.

MT. ARARAT 30
OXFORD HILLS 54

The host Vikings darted out to a 21-7 opening quarter lead and never let up for a KVAC win at South Paris.

Anna Winslow popped for 17 points, with Mikayla Morin adding 11 for Oxford Hills.

Allison Melcher paced Mt. Ararat (4-6) with 14 points, while Sara Lamb added 10, including two baskets from 3-point range. Melcher pulled down eight rebounds.

At the foul line, the Eagles finished 5-of-12, with the Vikings shooting at a 6-for-15 clip.

WISCASSET 40

The visiting Cobras outscored Wiscasset 25-10 in the second half for a Mountain Valley Conference win.

The teams were deadlocked 12-12 and 30-30 at the first two quarter breaks, but Carrabec claimed a 39-36 lead through three quarters and pulled away in the fourth.

Emma Plunke had a game-high 20 points in the win.

Miranda McIntire paced the Wolverines with 10 points, followed by Colleen Hendricks and Kayla Gordon with eight each, and Alecia Faulkingham with seven. Gordon pulled down 12 rebounds, and Wiscasset shot 16-of-27 from the freethrow line.

Carrabec was 12-of-31 from the stripe, while Mickayla Oullette had five steals for the Cobras.

LAKE REGION 68

Four players scored in double figures as the balanced Lakers (6-3) jumped out to a big lead and rolled to a Western Maine Conference win.

Kristen Huntress had 13 points, Sierra Hancock 12, Chandler True 11 and Sarah Hancock 10 points and 10 assists in the Lake Region win.

The Lakers darted out to a 23-7 lead in the first, led 47-19 at the half and 61-35 through three.

Megan Cormier had a big game for Freeport (0-9), scoring a game-high 21 points. Taylor Rinaldi added 10 points and Jessie Gray had seven.

Freeport is slated to host Traip Academy on Saturday at 7 p.m.

LISBON 29
MTN. VALLEY 47

The host Falcons (6-4) pulled away in the fourth quarter for an MVC win at Rumford.

Lisbon, 2-7 and scheduled to host Wiscasset on Monday at 7 p.m., stayed close throughout, trailing 7-6, 20- 15 and 30-22 at the quarter breaks.

Ashley Russell had 12 points in the win, while Sydney Petrie and Karen Flaherty split 22 points down the middle. Petrie also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Bree Sautter was the lone Lisbon player in double figures with 12 points, while Jasmine Le chipped in nine.
