The town of Scarborough is celebrating its annual Winterfest celebration on Saturday, Jan. 17, from noon to 5:30 p.m. at the municipal ice rink and high school sports complex. The schedule of events is as follows:
Noon: Lighting of firepits, Ice Rink
Noon-5 p.m.: Open skate (no hockey), Upper Rink
12:30-3:30 p.m.: Wagon rides (pickup beyond Ice Rink)
12:30-4 p.m.: Snow Sculpture Contest, next to Ice Rink. Categories include Best Individual, Best Family, Best Family without an Adult, Most Creative, Wild Card. (4:45 p.m. results to be announced).
12:30-3:30 p.m.: Silent Auction/Raffles, in tent next to Ice Rink (4 p.m. winners announced)
12:30 p.m.: Milk Jug Curling, Upper Ice Rink
12:30 p.m.: Snow Sling, Wentworth Field
1-2 p.m.: S’mores/hot chocolate, next to Bonfire.
1:15 p.m.: Human Dog Sled, Wentworth Field
1:45 p.m.: Ice Cube Hunt, Grades 1-2, Wentworth Playground (Participants must supply their own plastic bag.)
1:45 p.m.: Hula Hoop Challenge for pre-kindergartners and kindergarteners, Wentworth Field
2 p.m.: Snow Shoe Obstacle Course, Turf Field
2 p.m.: Score-O, Upper Rink
2:30 p.m.: Speed Skating, Lower Ice Rink
3 p.m.: Ice Cube Hunt for pre-kindergartners and kindergarteners, Wentworth Playground. (Participants must supply their own plastic bag)
3 p.m.: Slalom Skating, Lower Ice Rink
3:45 p.m.: Backwards Skating, Lower Rink
4:15 p.m.: Obstacle Course, Lower Ice Rink
5:15 p.m.: Crowning of the King and Queen
Fireworks follow immediately after the crowning ceremony.
