An Auburn man was arrested Friday night in connection with an armed robbery attempt at Rainbow Federal Credit Union Thursday.
Auburn Police said Andrew Franco, 37, was charged with one count of attempted robbery for confronting a credit union employee with a knife in the parking lot and forcing the employee into the building where he unsuccessfully attempted to gain access to the safe. The employee was able to escape unhurt. Franco fled on foot.
Franco was also charged with the armed robbery of Gowell’s Market in Auburn Jan. 11. Police said Franco confronted a store clerk at knife point and left with a small amount of money.
Franco is being held at Androscoggin County Jail on $15,000 bail.
Both incidents are under investigation and more charges are pending, police said.
